Ol’ Jack o Lantern

autumn

Leaves blow Down,
Through,
Across the Air
Like a gale.

Autumn time confetti
Smattering the free blue sky
Like the heralds
Of hell
That is raining down upon the
Mountains…
Billowing down
From the tops
Of Flatiron
Mountains.

The snow that will appear
Once those devil clouds
Disappear
Dissipate
Contract
And
Evaporate.
Out from air and sight.

I feel the mouth of Hades
Open
Amidst sunshine day.
And know it is his breath
That blows
And blows
Those leaves
So so
Far
In tumbles through the sky.

I know it is his mouth that opens
And parts the ways
Parts the veils
Makes the ways
That have been so hid
Reveal the road
To the otherware.

Tree tops bend
And don’t break
Fire tops and yellow
Bare witness to the dark spread
That is creeping
Across the sky

Autumn time has arrived
Samhuinn
The festival of spirits
Of harvest
Of coming into
The necessary darkness
Because what would we be
Without that inward time.

Be present to me
Say the wind and the trees
Be present to me
Says the earth and fluttering leaves

Because this is the time
Of change
The time to remind you
Of the ever onward
Change
Of death and going
Of letting go and belonging
To something greater

The truth
The truth that there is only now

Ol’ jack o lantern
Grins…
He knows
In the blowing of the winds,
Who really rules
The show.
